Comments: NB: Watch the uncut version first -- For the GAME OVER II DVD, I got together with Barry to supervise an edited version of the film to include as an extra. We reviewed the film scene by scene, before discussing ideas on what to remove in order to reduce the general level of sadism in the film. We are both, obviously, against censorship so we wanted to put together an example to show the effects censorship has on an action movie. We didn't cut this against the BBFC's guidelines as we originally had planned; we just removed what we felt would make the film less sadistic whilst trying not to totally destroy the original subtext of the film. However, in the end, these cuts have reduced my subtly satirical script and final product to nothing more than a simple action film. We didn't try to remove the subtext on purpose but as this version of the film demonstrates, by removing the brutal violence the cut version no longer hits the home the obvious blackly comic tone. Ferman just appears to kill a lot of people and shoot off loads of rounds at the end like a lunatic. If anything the film's now worse, as he just seems to go off on a killing spree! Although the violence is nasty in the uncut version, it's like that for a reason. And that reason is not so obvious in the cut version.
